Probably too late to make a suggestion, but what about pea puffers? Could have a small group in that size tank and they supposedly can be quite the clowns

Okay he likes guppies and gouramis. I was thinking 1 honey gourami, 4 male guppies, and either a snail or some shrimp. How does that sound?

As many as you want/ are willing to pay for! They have such a small bioload it's basically like they're not there. They reproduce very quickly but I think the gourami and guppies will eat some babies.

I'm wondering if a 10g wouldn't be too small for a dwarf gourami and other fish. Isn't the minimum recommended size for a DG about 15g?
