So I am getting ready to change my 40 tall into a brackish tank. Looking for some stocking suggestions.

+1 on the green spotted puffer! They have a 220gal bw tank at my lfs, and I love the puffers!

they have some columbian sharks and dragon? gobies in with the puffers at the store. Next time I go, I'll snap a pic for you...

i want to do a brackish tank myself 55-60 gallon but i dont want mollies, guppies, platys as I do not like these fish

Some uncommon brackish options: Hogchoker, sheepshead minnows, several species of killifish, If upgrading in the future is an option then Mono argentus/sebae work well, although they'll outgrow a 40g and eventually need to go to full SW.

i had a nice small brackish setup with a f8, freshwater flounder and bumble bee gobies with a mudskipper on a platform on top

Dragon goby grow too big for a footprint of 40g tall. Not recommended by me. Figure 8 with knight or bumblebee goby is my favorite. Those fish are easy to find in my area.

If you want to go true oddball the. Do a mudskipper tank. They are fun to watch and a lot of the time mine would watch me.
