I buy leaf worms (small earthworms, about 3-4 inches long) from a fishing bait store and cut them into 3rds as a weekly treat for my ACFs. Anyone see anything potentially dangerous about that? They absolutely go nuts over them, but I worry that there may be disease pathogens in the worms.

With any live food, there is always some degree of risk regarding parasites and pathogens. However, your bait shop probably buys their worms from a large commercial supplier that raises them in a controlled environment. You could ask - they are most likely safe.

There are some people in my local aquarium club who raise their own earthworms as cichlid food. Apparently, it's relatively easy and inexpensive. Do a google search for "raising earthworms" if you may be interested in trying this.
