If I use active carbon to refill filter is there a certain amount that needs to go in there

Beware that carbon only works for about two weeks before it becomes saturated.
 
I really never use carbon in my tanks anymore. It's really unneeded unless you're trying to remove odor or medication from the aquarium. Other than that, I hear it can actually do more harm than good. It all comes down to money. That's how companies make money, when people replace their media. I never do. So I replaced it with a bunch of extra bio-balls/material with tons of surface area where beneficial bacteria can grow.
