I'm wanting to add a couple of platys or guppies to an established aqaurium with 1 dwarf frog, 3 tetras a pleco and golden gourami. The tank is approx 50 litres and has been established for approx 6 months. Am i likely to upset the balance after this length of time and is everyone going to get on?

50L is about 13 US gallons. Sounds like your tank is pretty fully stocked right now. I would pass on the guppies.

I second Fluff's advice. 13 gallons, with the fish you have in there now is pretty much stocked. You could always opt to get a 10 gallon deluxe kit at walmart for ~ $50.00 which includes everything minus the gravel. You could then set up a guppy tank or something else to your fancy.
