Advice needed for betta/shark relationship

I had a red betta before, but my red-tailed shark kept pestering him...when the betta died, his fins were all ragged. I was wondering if the shark messed with him because he was red, and a blue betta wouldn't have that problem, or if it was because the shark is a fin nipper. The only other thing in my tank is a mickey mouse platy, and the shark doesn't mess with her anymore.... 8O

I have never kept sharks with bettas, but my gut is telling me that bettas and sharks are not a good mix. The other possiblity is the platy didn't like the betta.

The betta shark mix just doesn't sound good to me at all.

Yep, probably the shark nipping the betta. Those things will pick at anything sometimes...all depends on the temperment of the individual fish honestly, I think.
