Algae identification help

I know I should have brought my camera to take a picture...I'll do that on monday, but my 6 gallon tank at work has this weird algae. Some of it is just the brown diatoms on the glass, but there's this other brown algae that I have never seen before. It almost looks like hair algae, but I hae had hair algae before, and it's different. It's not as stringy, it's silkier and more fragile when I rub it. It's doesn't grow in a blanket but it grows up like the hair algae.

Any ideas so I can figure out the cause and correct it? Thanks.

Without a pic, it's hard to tell...sounds like the mystery algae I had in my saltwater tank!
