Any "food" left in the tank will break down and cause problems. As with any food you should scoop it out if it is not eaten within a time frame. Being a wafer, and assuming you are feeding a bottom feeder like a pleco that take their good time eating. If you toss it in at night scoping un-eaten bits out in the morning would likely be best.
