Ammonia in tap water. Suggestions?

Stress Coat should be fine (I prefer Seachem Prime). Just keep dosing it every 24 hours like we talked about, and we'll learn a lot more about what's going on in the next few days.

No problem :). Let us know what happens.

Also, RO/DI as well as bottled water don't have ammonia...but you can run into a lot of other problems with them as well due to pH, GH and alkalinity issues. Then you have to concern yourself with additives to restore the nutrients that are stripped from the water. I don't think there's ever really a reason to use them in a FW setup barring extreme circumstances.
 
Just got home. Here is my test. Haven't done anything yet.
