For the past two weeks my ammonia has been at .25 I can't get it down. I'd this going to hurt my fish?? I test with the api kit. The temp is 78. Ph is 7.6 nitrites 0 nitrates at 5. 55 gallon. With 2 bettas, 1 gourami, a rainbow shark 4 danios and 2 anfels. Along with 2 plattys.

Do you add any chemicals to your tank?

Do you know what the ammonia reading is for your tap water? Mine is about 0.25 if I remember correctly, due the chloramine used to treat the water.

If that is the case for you then you will still have an ammo reading in your tank even after a big water change.

It wont terribly hurt them. The best thing to do is do a PWC and add prime

*edit* any time you see an ammonia spike, change a percentage of the water and add prime

I wouldn't worry about it. .25 ppm ammonia is not going to hurt anything, and the test kits are not exacting by any means, so it's not unheard of that it might be slightly off.
Jeta is correct. .25 isnt much. All it should take to clear that up is a water change and or double test
