And now a heater question

Ok - I am still deceiding if I want a cold water or tropical tank .I have a 15 gallon TALL tank (20" L * 10" W * 18" TALL). What wattage heater would I need.

I have a 125W heater sitting at home from my 29 gallon system- can I use this one?

I can't see why not. You need 75 watts for 15 gallons so 125 is not really over kill.

if its any help, i have a 150W heater on my 20g...i think if the company is reputable, there's no problem. the thermostat would be good enough.
but in case its from a cheaper company, you run the risk of the thermostat 'sticking' and frying your tank .

even with cold water fish, it is good to have a heater set on 70 degrees just to keep the tank temperature stable between night and day. Temp changes really stress out fish and so I think no matter which way you decide to go, you should have a heater.

So what fish are you thinking of?

I had white cloud mountain minnows in this tank - I had to give them away as I was moving. I een breeded and multiplied in the tank
Before the move, it was in my office however I don't have space in my new office. Since I was not allowed to have a heater in the tank before (becuase of "fire hazard" --go figure ), I was having cold water fish -- but now I am open to tropical as well as this tank would be in my house and not office.

I was thinking cardinals perhaps??

I have a ebbo-Jaber heater or something to that effect. It was highly recommended by everyone in this forum - so I assume its a quality one!
