I went to the LFS today and picked up two Boseman Rainbow's. When I was there I also noticed these really cool looking feather shrimp. Has anyone ever had these and what kind of success have you had?

Not sure what a feather shrimp is; any idea what the scientific name is? Is it FW or SW? and if its FW, does it have fan like "hands" instead of claws?

I'm not sure of the scientific name. It's FW and yes it has hand that's are like fans. Sometimes the shrimp just sits there with them open, almost filtering the water for food particles, other times he'll be scavenging around on the gravel. Does this help?

Could it be a Atyopsis gabonensis?

TIA

Possibly; could be a bamboo shrimp too (Atyopsis spinipes); they are more often seen in LFS. Do a google on those guys and see if they match; some pics here as well: http://www.shrimpcrabsandcrayfish.co.uk/Shrimp.htm?Shrimpfr.htm~mainFrame

I've owned a couple of bamboo shrimp. The first one went carpet surfing, the second had a bad moult. I will be trying again; I keep the top of the tank pretty sealed now, and the bad moult I consider a fluke. They need a lot of microorganisms tho (all fan shrimp do) so if you don't have a well planted tank, you'll need to buy food for em. This stuff is recommended: http://www.franksaquarium.com/OSIFoods.htm
