Anyone here keep Elephant-Nose Fish - Any pics?
I have become interested in the Elephant Nose fish recently.
They are very unusual and fascinating fish. For those that keep them... what fish do u keep them with? & are they easier to keep than Black Ghost Knife (another electric fish). |

i almost got one while waiting for my BGK to come in. they are a cool fish, with the same needs as BGK. do not put them with each other, or other electrical fish unless you have a 75 gallon plus i'd say, maybe more.
they eat frozen bloodworms, most electric fish reject freeze dried unless starving all i know, BGKs contrary to what they tell you, arent hard fish to keep

I have a BGK and my mate has a elephant nose.
He keeps it in a community tank and has never had any problems with it. It eats everything he puts in but prefers frozen meats. You should have no problem as long as he is the only 'sonar' fish in your tank. |

Elephant fish are good fish. In fact, they are one of the odest kept fish, having been kept by the Egyptian Pharaohs long ago. We know this as in the tombs of those kings, there are jars with their remains inside. Only keep one electrical fish per tank- don't mix knives and elephants, as they are both eletcrical fish, with each saending out pulses for naviagtion, feedng, etc. So if you mix them, the signals might interfere. They love frozen bloodworms. Type them in a search engine, you will fins many results for them submitted by other keepers.

thanks for your help everyone.
Keeping an elephant-nose isn't on the agenda at the moment. I would need to get a bigger tank first. But owning one is definitely a future plan. |
