I've lost three fish to this filter intake; 2 Rasboras and one pea puffer. When I went to the pet store to get another puffer, I got a small breeding net to put around the intake so the new (incredibly small) puffer wouldn't get sucked in.

What can I do to prevent this? Is there something else I can put on there? Because while it is working, it is't too pleasing to the eye.

I've seen people put sponges cut up specifically in the shape of the intake ( have a hole through them) and then nothing can get into it. Or maybe you could put an old fish net over it with some thread to keep it on there!
