are there any high nitrate signs?

Hi I was wondering if there are any signs in your fish that can indicate high nitrate levels. My tank finsihed cycling about a week ago, when it did i did about a 20% water change. How much should I do today more or the same? I have a feeling i didn't do a big enough water change after the cycle...and as I only have ammonia and nitrite test kits curently Im kinda guessing how much nitrate I have.

There are no symptoms that are as accurate or reliable as a good test kit. Till you get a good kit, you could always do more frequent or greater amounts for your water changes. I have the belief that you can't change too much water, as long as parameters are not dramatically altered by the water change.

I would have to agree with Tom. When in doubt do water changes. I do 50% on most of my tanks and the fish love it.
