Quick question... A piece from my hob filter broke off and I will need to glue/ silicone it back together. My question is that I have the media in a bucket of tank water. How long before the bacteria start dying off. Do I have more than a couple hours ,it is a secondary filter by the way... Thanks in advance

I have received this response from another member. Caliban07
I read a study once where cultured bacteria that received no ammonia for up to 3 months immediately began to nitrify ammonia when a source was added. This may have been longer if the length of study permitted.

In short, I wouldn't worry about ammonia dying off.

I kinda thought I would be ok... Thanks for the reply!

I can tell you 4/5 days is no problem. I had to stop dosing ammonia and let my nitrites/nitrates catch up.
