Do I need to vacuum the eco? Or it will transform fish waste to plants food (even if the plants root isn't everywhere)?

Do I need to vacuum the eco? Or it will transform fish waste to plants food (even if the plants root isn't everywhere)?

In my planted tank with EC I have not in over a year. I suppose you could vacuum the non planted areas; you may want to avoid any wandering roots. My tank has always had 75-90% plant coverage so it was not an option.
