Betta bit off snails antennae

My Betta suddenly discovered the small brown (edible) ramshorn snail that is his tankmate, who is now one antennae short... Is the eye at the tip or the base of the antennae? He is too small for me to tell. Can he survive if the Betta bites off the other one? I have heard they grow back.
 
Yes, he can survive and probably will be just fine. I've heard of other Bettas doing the same thing so it's not abnormal behavior either.
Some people have said that their snails learn real quick to pull in when the Betta comes too close.
 
The antenna will grow back-and the eyes are underneath the antennae. They do seem to be able to figure out that there's something nippy in the tank eventually, but the betta will probly keep at it.
