Betta water temp

Today I was at petsmart and I heard an employee telling a customer that she does not need a heater for a Betta but she does need a heater for tropical fish! My jaw dropped! Keep in mind I live in Northern Indiana and it gets quite cold here. I never ceased to be amazed at the ignorance of LFS employees.

Typical, but what surprises me is that the employee talked someone out of a sale.

The customer seemed pretty uniformed about fish as she was returning some dead ones. The employee also tried to tell her she only needed to change a little bit of water with a Betta. What an idiot. From what I overheard she was going to buy a heater and not a Betta.

I keep bettas along with several other fish at room temp. It's Florida here and it does get cold, but not im my house. Central heat keeps it pretty steady in the mid 70s.
