So my girlfriend saw some freshwater clams at the petshop today when I went to pick up some equipment and she loved them. Figured they may make a gift one day. But... Anyone have advice on them? What is the bio-load? (They are an in wide at largest) I assume they like a substrate they can burrow in? Will they accect rocks/pebbels?

Bio-load is similar to fish with a similar mass. They will accept gravel, but prefer fine gravel sand, and tend to do poorly if you have pristine water unless you target-feed.

Toirtis..
Why do FW clams have a similar bio-load to mass as a fish? Is it O2 consumption, contribution to ammonia production or both?
just curious.. TIA

Are they easy to keep? I have read some places that they dont do well in tropical tempatures, my tank is naturally around 78.
