Biomax and c-node questions

How often does everyone clean or replace the biomax or c-nodes. I have read contradicting advice. I have my biomax in two separate media bags in case I need to replace it half at a time. I have only swished it in tank water twice in a year.

I swish the media at least once a month. I don't replace it. I have added some and taken some out to seed other filters. I have heard about the media becoming clogged and saturated and becoming less effective over time. Not sure if I agree with that.

I swish mine when it looks gunky. I don't replace unless the filter hasn't been in use for months and months.
