I'm not sure if this is the best place to post this but here goes.

I am planning a 75 gallon freshwater aquarium with fake (gasp) plants. I want to use a black gravel substrate. I want a small gravel but not sand. Does anyone have suggestions? I've looked online but can't distinguish particle size based on the pictures offered and no sizes are given.

Any help would be great.

THANKS!

I have Estees black gravel in one of my tanks. It looks very nice. It is pretty small but certainly not sand particle sized.

I'd recommend 3M Colorquartz T-grade. It's a large grain "sand"-ish texture, but isn't real find sand (they have that too, the S-Grade). Check your local pool distributor, or on 3M's website they'll tell you where to get it. It's about $26 for 50 pounds last I checked, and comes in a wide variety of colors (including jet black). It's completely inert, and won't break down over time.
