black sand substrate??

I'm looking for a black sand substrate to grow plants in and that is fine enough not to hurt my corys??

I think eco complete fine grade would be exactly what you're looking for.

Not at all. The eco complete is a stand alone substrate.

Do I clean it normally with a siphon like gravel

Generally substrate cleaning isn't done in planted tank as the plants will utilize the detritus in the substrate for growth. If there's a buildup though you can hover an inch or two above the substrate to clean it.
