Black water

So I decided to go sand in the bottom of my freshwater aquarium and now since I took all the gravel out of the bottom the waters turned black.... I changed the filter in the canister filter and am running it now and I hope it is enough to clean it out. Any other suggestions by anyone?

Did you not do a 100% water change?

No I did not do a 100% water change the fish are still in there right now, I have no where else to put them and trying to get them all out is going to be a pain in the butt. I do have an extra HOB filter if that would help if I put that on too.

I would do as much as you can so that the fish are still under water. Maybe leave 2" (unless you've got some big fish).

Theres some big boys in there so I added the marineland 280 on there and am letting that run at the same time as my canister filter so hopefully that will help it clear out. It is very very loud though. I am glad I only have it for a back up.
