So, I have a 37 gallon tank that is a blank canvas with sand substrate. I'm thinking of doing a pseudo saltwater with african cichlids. Thoughts?

Also, what is the prime depth that substrate should be on the bottom of the tank? I opened one package of the sand and it covers the bottom nicely with approximately a 1/2 - 3/4 in depth. Do I need the other bag as well?

Thanks in advance.

37 gallon isn't really large enough for the majority of commonly available african cichlids. There are a few of the dwarf species of africans that might do ok in that size of an aquarium, but most really need a 4' long tank.

So what would you suggest for my tank?
