That's what mine looks like so I think it's normal.

Yep. I don't think stress or bad diet are the case with either one of our parrots. Mine has an adult auratus male in with him and is still the dominant fish. The only one in the tank he lets near his flowerpot is a male convict. They're pretty tight buddies. Every single fish in that aquarium are rescues given to me for one reason or another.

if you have the room for one, absolutely...when i added a friend for mine, he colored up right away and just seems happier

He has pretty much lost all his black and I got her a buddy today! I think I now have a male and female.

Now the newer one is getting some black. I guess the new tank stresses them out for a while.
