I got my inline uv sterilizer today, but the barb sizes were different than my eheim filters so I got a coupler to go from 1/2" to 3/4" hose. Its brass though and the water does touch it so I was wondering if it could release anything bad into the water. Its for plumbing so I figured it would be fine but thought it was worth asking.

It is unliky to cause a problem. Suggestions of the copper element of brass dissolving are misleading. Copper may be released if a very low pH is reached, but if that happens, then copper will be the least.of.your problems.

My uncle used to make sculpted copper fountains for ponds and water features and is a qualified metalurgist, and he assures me there is not a problem.

Thats good to know. From what you two have told me and what I've read I don't think it will be a problem, but i think i will eventually change it out just for peace of mind.
