Brine shrimp - hatch your own advice.

anyone have experience doing this? I know the fish would love it but how well does it work?

I saw this and it seems it would be little trouble since they would swim out on their own once mature.

If you have experience w/ anything like this i was wondering...
1. how much upkeep to them?
2. do you have to change the water they are in?
3. do these self feeding devices really work? are they worth it?

BillD has started an aquarium
Never used one, but I will say that the water gets very skunky , quickly, when using conventional methods, so I would expect the same with that. I now decapsulate the cysts with bleach before use, which kills any bacteria, and increases the hatch rate.

i just tried raising some brine shrimp, i had them in a 1 gallon bowl, thought i could use them as a clean up crew in my marine tank.

i threw in some marine sand, left an airator in, and ground up fish flakes for food. for whatever reason, they never grew, and the last one died a few days ago.

its virtually impossible to do water changes as
1. the shrimp are so tiny your going to loose most of them
2. they're marine inverts, so if you don't have experience how to get the water at the proper salinity (something most in the fw forum know little of)

i dont know how they were so easy to raise as a kid, they'd live for months
