Brine Shrimp Hatchery...

Are these a good idea, or bad? I am wanting to add some variety to my fishes diets, as I know some prefer some meat here and there. Would this work, or are there better ideas? What are some good alternatives to flake, other than veggies, as my plecos tend to dominate them...
