Have just set up a new 47 gallon with built in filter. I have seeded media that was supporting a betta and shrimp.

The tank will eventually consist of 2 x blue acara cichlids and the plec.

I'm getting a eihem 2217 for Xmas to run alongside the internal. Would the plec be ok to add before Xmas with this media? Or would you wait till the new filter is installed.

Will the plec be ok on it's own till then?

It will be ok make sure to give him a steady diet though of algae wafers and raw vegetables.

The seeded media will have a very limited amount of BB on it due to the small bio-load of only a betta and some shrimp. But considering it's a 47 gallon tank you shouldn't see any spikes in ammonia. As for it being the only fish, that won't be a problem at all. Just be sure it is eating especially if there is no algae or diatoms in the new tank. Not too long ago I found a new food, New Era Plec Pellets. They are good sized and soft and my pleco's and other algae/sucker fish really go for them.
