I have a fully grown female bristlenose pleco in a 20g tank. A friend of mine offered me a young male bristlenose pleco. Would it be okay to add him. Man in pet store said female would kill the young male but i trust peoples opinion more on this than in the store. Thanks

I just wouldn't add another due to the simple fact they're extremely messy fish, 2 in a 20 is asking for water quality issues..

My male rarely gets in a quarrel and I understand these are peaceful fish. If your tank had a bigger footprint it would probably be okay. As is with only a 20g you are looking at two poop machines in not much water.

I find the females fairly easy going but totally agree on tank size concerns. If they get 'bored' (for want of a better word) and start latching onto fish they can become trouble-makers.

I have a aquaclear 50 filter running on the tank . And do a 50% water change every weekend. And it will only be the 2 plecos in this tank.

So you're wanting to.breed them? That'd be fine if a species only tank.. lots of drift wood and caves;)

I was thinking down the line i could breed them. Its just the male is still very small . Didn't want the female to try kill it injure it

If that be the case, I say go ahead as long as you have plenty of places for the male to hide.
