Buying Fish Online

I've always wondered how you buy fish online and was wondering if anyone could tell me the process just so I know. How do they ship them? How long does it take them to stop being stressed after the trip? And how likely are they to die in the shipping process? Thanks

Most places have shipping wether its mandatory 2 day or something, and most have a DOA warranty. I don't like the idea of it because I usually like picking out the fish, I mean what do you do if you get a bag a fish that look like petsmarts stock? But I have wanted to get a goldnugget pleco and hillstream loachs online.

On shipping how do you think fish get to a distributor or store? Shipped there.

I always supposed trucks delivered the fish to the store with people who know what's in the boxes handling them. Since normal postal workers don't know what's in the package I was worried they would be to rough with them. How are they packed? Are they in a little water with a ton of air and peanuts?

It depends on who is doing the shipping. Generally, they are either packed in a bag with pure o2 added to it instead of just room air or they are packed with breather bags which allow the exchange of air through the bag.

They are also usually packed in a styrofoam box for the insulation. But you will find this practice varies wildly. Buying fish online is fairly safe. There will be some stock loss but they are usually guaranteed for a dead on arrival refund. Also, if you go to sites like aquabid you can often get a picture of the actual fish you're buying.
