CAE mistake
I think I made a mistake and jumped too fast when someone recommended getting a [acronym:67d5681f0c="Chinese Algae Eater"]CAE[/acronym:67d5681f0c] to clean up my algae. They cleaned up the algae, but now I'm starting to realize how large they will get and that they are aggressive once they get large.
So this brings up a question. Once you buy a fish or fishes and decide they aren't compatible anymore with your other fish, what do you do? Do most pet stores take fish as trade-ins? |

Some will take trade-ins, ask around. The other alternative is to speak with someone from your local Aquarium Society and see if anyone there would take your [acronym:db96811f3f="Chinese Algae Eater"]CAE[/acronym:db96811f3f].

Sometimes there is confusion (well, there is almost always confusion!) when it comes to [acronym:44533aa49b="Chinese Algae Eater"]CAE[/acronym:44533aa49b], [acronym:44533aa49b="Siamese Algae Eater"]SAE[/acronym:44533aa49b], flying fox, false [acronym:44533aa49b="Siamese Algae Eater"]SAE[/acronym:44533aa49b].. the list goes on. They are all often recommended for algae problems, so don't feel bad. You can certainly keep the fish and wait until a problem develops, or go ahead and trade it while it is still a young specimen - might be easier that way. Be sure that what you have is indeed a [acronym:44533aa49b="Chinese Algae Eater"]CAE[/acronym:44533aa49b], though - you can't always go by what the [acronym:44533aa49b="Local Fish Store"]LFS[/acronym:44533aa49b] calls them.

How many [acronym:f53c3991d2="Chinese Algae Eater"]CAE[/acronym:f53c3991d2] u have? 1-2 in a >29 [acronym:f53c3991d2="Gallon"]gal[/acronym:f53c3991d2] should be fine but they occasionly will chase each other.
Unless u prepare to give away, there is not much u can do... Probabily before you make next purchase you should do some reseach. Now i Just take the time to reseach (some took me 2-3 weeks!!!) before make any purchase and i find out this way you will increase the appreciation and enjoyment of the purchase futher. Don't worry about it, it happens to all of us. I bought some mbuna cichlids for my tank, after doing research and thinking they would be fine, and found they weren't working out in my tank as they matured.
What I did was hit up the internet yellow pages and call every pet store within a reasonable distance. I was finally able to find one who would take my fish, but it took some effort. Good Luck!

I used to keep the [acronym:bacf3c6568="Chinese Algae Eater"]CAE[/acronym:bacf3c6568] as a kid. That was about the only algae eater available. I bought a couple [acronym:bacf3c6568="Siamese Algae Eater"]SAE[/acronym:bacf3c6568] a few years ago and honestly can't tell a big difference between the amount of algae they eat. Especially now that the SAEs are close to 3". They eat a lot of flake food.

Right now I have 2 in a 65 gallon tank, but I was going to move them to my 20 gallon. I just don't want them messing with any other fish.... They're definitely [acronym:449e2bc25e="Chinese Algae Eater"]CAE[/acronym:449e2bc25e], I identified them from a website with pics
