Or am I already overstocked? In case you missed my other posts, I have a 55 gallon fully cycled aquarium with:

3 mollies
1 platy
5 bloodfin tetras
3 guppies
6 black skirts
1 rubber lipped pleco
2 gold barbs
4 harlequin rasboras I think (I put in six yesterday but can only count four- I think two may not have survived- maybe I did not acclimate them long enough?):-(
3 cories

I want to add more cories. Maybe three more. I'd kind of like to add another platy (I think a red wag would look nice) I don't intend to be actively saving any fry in the tank, but there are a lot of hiding places so a few may make it (I'm hoping, though I have not left a whole lot of room)

So my question is- cories? And the red wag? I was going to get more gold barbs but the lfs didn't have any-will just two be ok? Are 4 rasboras ok?

Corys do better if kept in small groups of at least six, they need to socialise.

Whats your pH by the way?

I would add as many cories as possible without crowding the tank. I don't think you are overstocked, but I am not sure. Plus it looks like the only other bottom fish you have is the pleco? He could take up quite a bit of space though when full grown....

The people who sold me the pleco said that its not a common pleco (which gets huge) but a rubberlip (or was it bristlenose) pleco that stays small (four inches or so, they said) I wouln't put a common pleco in the tnak with that many fish. So you think I can add more corys? It's hard to tell how much I can stock as I am new to these types of fish.

EDIT: I have no idea what my PH is.

You can add up to 12 more corydoras.( I would)

I have a 52g and with filtration and super heavy planting I was able to keep 100+ fish in there healthy,Ive toned it down alot but you seem to be fine, there isnt much in that 55 to be honest with you.

what strains of corydora do you have already?

Albinos. I am running two AquaClear 70 filters, so I think I have pretty good filtration. When I get my canopy, I will hopefully be able to fit the two filters with it.

Do I need more rasboras? I am hoping the other two are hiding and not dead.

tetras prefer larger schools, like most fish, with that bioload with twin AC70's you are barely feeding one of those filters completely. Im not saying go hawg wild but use your best judgement, read up on the selected species and go from there.

My 52 WAS stocked like this(got a 210 they moved into)
60+ cardinals/neons
11 angels
4 RNPs
6 saes
6 rams
4 black neons

I was running an ac70,mag 350,mag 250 and an eheim pro 3 2080 on that tank.
we are close in size so I really wouldnt worry about overstocking small fish like tetras and corydoras.

If fish are breeding its a very good sign, also are you using live plants? they aid alot in set ups like this.

id run about a dozen of each in that tank.
the 1" rule isnt really a rule it was made up before the internet and has stayed as law but its in most cases unuseable.

+1 on more cories, load 'em up!
cories spawn like crazy? did you do anything to induce it? i'm going to get a group of cories, wouldn't mind having babies! but i'm not set up with a breeder tank. do the babies survive in a community tank?

no they eggs dont last long, they just spawn when they feel like it to be honest. they did today, two days ago and more then likely will again wed/thursday

Cories can and will breed in a community tank... plenty of coverage about that in the breeding section. Overfeeding seems to kick it off in my tank. The question I'd have is whether the other fish will take the eggs off the glass, especially the pleco. If the eggs last through hatching, then all the fry need is some dark cover (plants, etc.)

3 might not be enough to get the lovin' going though ;0 so maybe 3 more to start? Just a thought.

Wow, that would be cool if I could get some baby cories! I am hoping for some baby guppies and mollies. People on other forums have said that its likely none will survive withoutout being eaten though. My tank is full of rocks and caves, but I have a lot of fish, so I don't know.

I go to an office that has a 50g hex tank full of guppies and danios, the fry just keep surviving. I guess it depends on how many fish are in there to start and if there is enough coverage. They have to keep scooping fry out to regulate the population lol

sarah, in the last post you did, you are not overstocked, you asked about PWC, in my post i said that in the generator, you had to do 20-30% PWC every week, as for your stock, you are 70% stocked i believe if i remember correctly, so you can add more, but ofcourse, the more you stock, the PWC will rise so, think about it

I won't add more right away. I went ahead and ordered that hose extension online so i will start using it as soon as it comes. I have to figure out how it works, I hope its not too complicated.

Down the road I want to add more, but not for a while. I think its best just to maintain the tank as it is for now, but I was more interested in just knowing what my options were for the future.

You can never have enough cory cats. I want one day to build a 4'x4'x12" cory tank that would feature exclusively armored catfish. But that's a project for once I graduate...no room right now.

Crepe is 100% right.

30% weekly water changes MAX or you might start to change the parameters more then youd like.
