Can I keep a a pair of Bolivian Rams?

PLease look in my signature for my current bio-load. I really like the Bolivian Rams and was planning to keep a pair (or 3) in the tank.

How will it affect my bioload ? Also I have not seen these guys in Petco, Petsmart or any of the big stores and don't have any decent LFS (that I know of) in this area. Where do you guys get the rams from ?

got mine at a LFS, you could order some online, or look for breeders in your area...

I got mine from a breeder at my Aquarium Club. You could try Aquabid.com, the only downfall there is the seller(s) may want to send more than you need. If that occurs, try speaking with the seller(s) individually and see what happens.

IMO the 15 gal might be ok with 2 rams, certainly not the 3 gal. Check with your local aquarium society to see if anyone might have rams that they want to part with.

IMO the footprint of a 15 gallon just isn't large enough to keep Bolivians. They do get a bit larger than GBRs and IME they are a little more territorial. I would recommend a bare minimum of a 20 long for these fish. Have you considered GBRs/gold rams (same species)?

Oh of course the 15 gallon -- will it be ok for 2 more fish ?

i agree the 15 woulb be better suited for a pair of GBG not so much with a pair of bolivians...

Are you speaking of Bolivian rams or other fish? I have to defer to the expertise of others with Bolivian's. I have GBR's and they stay pretty small. If you want other fish you could add a couple of other fish, perhaps more but different tetras?

FWIW I keep my GBR's in a species only tank that is 20 gals.

Bolivians will/could get up to around 4 inches long. 20 gallon tank at the LEAST. Only buy them in pairs unless you are getting all of the same sex.

I agree, a minimum of 20G long for Bolivians. They do get a little big for a 10G or 15G. Could ddo a single by himself though, like a centerpiece fish. A single will do ok along.
