I'm working to get my 36g fresh water cycling and was wondering if my 75g pond (cycled for four years) would be a good place to get seeding material. I could place some extra cotton or filter materiel in the filter or just pull a bit of what's existing.

Are there differences in the cycles?
Are there dangers in introducing outdoor contaminates?

Thanks
Randal

As long as your pond is healthy it will be fine to use some media on your tank. It will speed up the cycle. I would watch out for creepy crawlies making their way into your tank though.

My mother did this starting her indoor tank in England. Not sure if temperature makes a difference (can you kill the bacteria that way?), but she did it during the winter time (in England), so temps weren't that cold, but if you're in NO it might not be too cold there either and might compare equally as well to tank temp.

Temp shouldnt be an issue here (especially for New Orleans-lived there for a couple of yrs & loved it!!). Good luck starting up this tank! :)
