Can they coexsist?

A male and female paradise gourami. I bought one thinking it was a male... But after this long and not getting more color. It's a female. So if I were to seek out a male... Would they be ok together? I wouldn't try to breed them but I figure is ask if that would work.

I've kept them together. In my experience they are fine except when breeding. They pretty much ignore tankmates but the male goes psycho, especially towards the female, when there are eggs.
