canister filter media question

I was given a cascade 700 filter and I'm going to set it up this weekend. I'm new to canister filters and would like some advice on what type of media to put in it and in what order. Also, can I place my establish media from my hob filter in it to start the bio process?

Sponges, bio balls or ceramic rings work well in a canister. And head you can cut up all the old media if it doesn't fit in the canister or just place it in it
