Back around thanksgiving i bought a new filter because mine burned up. The new one came with a bag of carbon and a foam block. I added my old(established) media and everything is good. Yesterday during my water change I swished the media in the old tank water and put it all back in order. Afterwards I got to thinking: how often, if ever, does the baggie of carbon need to be replaced? This is my first time running carbon in a filter. Thanks.

I dont put the carbon in unless i have been treating with medication. just the sponge and ceramic rings here.

You don't carbon. Waste of money and only last for about a week. Take it out, no harm done. If you'd like you can add in a bag of purigen or use some poly fill or polishing pads.

Carbon is sometimes used to aid in the removal of medications after treating the tank.

I know it comes with the kit. Usually the aquaclear's come with it, but IMO its not needed.

Ok thanks. I'll remove it.
