cleaning a 40gal breeder that had reptiles

I'd like to clean an old 40 gallon breeder that used to have reptiles in it. Would a hot rinse be good enough or should I bleach it?

Yes, I agree, HOT water. I never use commercial cleaning products. I also had a leopard gecko. I don't even like the soaps that say safe for reptiles/fish. Get the water as hot as you can get it without it burning your hands.

Bleach is okay to use. Most go with a 1:19 solution, just be sure to rinse very well, sun dry, and use extra dechlorinator when setting the tank up, just in case.
