Only problem is that it has some thick film on the inside I poured boiling water in and that didnt get rid of it.
Any ideas ? I think it used to have a plant in it.

Hmmm, have you tried using a wire pan scourer?

They do great at removing gunk an they don't scratch they glass.

How many gals is the vase? Looks pretty cool for a small tank idea.

No idea how many gallons yet ! I have a tank scrubber but don't want to contaminate it and I don't have a pan brush :/

I have brushes but they have chemicals and viniger on them from cleaning my floors

Bettas really need a filter and a heater to be happy and healthy. I would only use that vase if you can rig it so you can get both in there. They also need like 2.5g minimum. Some people say 5g minimum.
