Cleaning Filter Housing

Is it ok the clean a HOB Filter housing on a newly cycled tank? The housing has brown goop on it....

if you clean that off the tank will have to cycle again...

You can clean both the filter housing and the filter media. Clean the media in a bucket of old tank water to preserve the nitrifying bacteria. I scrub my filter housings in the sink under tap water.

yes you can clean it. just make sure your media stays wet and if you are cleaning the media too clean it in tank water. The housing can be cleaned under tap water like BigJim said.
