Cleaning outside glass

Dumb question I know but just wanted to make sure.

Is it ok to use Windex with ammonia glass cleaner to clean the outside of a glass aquarium.

What does everyone else use or recommend.

I wouldn't do it. You would have to be absolutely certain that nothing sprays into the tank for it to be safe. I have no problem cleaning the outside of my glass with a damp rag (water only) and then rubbing it with a dry rag. If you feel you must use windex I would spray a paper towel with the windex far away from the tank and then use the paper towel on the tank vs spraying the glass.

I have heard/read may viewpoints on this. I do as talloulou suggested, spray the paper towel away from the tank, and then clean. However, I know of others that spray the glass directly with no problem. I prefer to be safe.

I use windex wipes, but I have used windex in a bottle. We also bought glass cleaner from the fish store that is safe if it gets in the water. You may want to do a search on this subject because there are many suggestions that have been made on how to clean glass.

I spray a paper towel with glass cleaner and use it to clean the outside of the tanks. Then I do my TV and computer monitor.

I would never use glass cleaner of any kind on the lid - just hot water.

If you have kids or pets, glass cleaner is the only way to remove finger/nose/tongue prints! I have neither, so the outside of my tanks stay pretty clean.

as long as the lid is secure, you shouldnt have any problems just spraying the glass directly. The little bit of ammonia and other chemicals that linger in the air will most likely dissipate before it ever reaches the water. If you want to play it safe, just do like other suggested and spray onto the towel itself.

I usually spray a paper towel at the sink and then walk around the house, wiping tanks and TVs, etc., like QTOFFER. I also have one of those microfiber cloths that you use dry, and it really works wonders on glass, mirrors, etc., but you have to put a bit more elbow grease into it. Then you just toss the thing in the washer after a while. Mine is used in the car, currently, but I need to get a few more for around the house.
