I have this unoccupied terrarium filled with coconut fiber substrate and i was wondering if i can use it for my 20 gal aquarium. It's previous use was for a substrate for my (now dead) scorpion and would that make it unusable? I don't have a specific role for it in mind so any use is use for me.

I would have reservations about using any type of used terrarium substrate in an aquarium. But the idea of coconut fiber interests me. It sounds like it could be a good media in a canister filter. The fibers, I would guess, would act as a mechanical stage if packed tight enough, but also would perform some surface area for the biological filter, as well as possibly being beneficial in a planted tank. Coconut fiber is a favorite growing medium by hydroponic gardeners.
