Community fish that will eat fry?
Hi, I'm thinking about getting some guppies for my 20 [acronym:737fbea765="Gallon"]gal[/acronym:737fbea765] tank. However, heard some horror stories about tons of fry surviving and taking over the tank. So far I have 8 neons and 5 serpae tetras.
Any suggestions on fish breeds that will take care of the fry? Thanks, Tim. |

My guppies are in with neons and serpaes and the fry have not been eaten. There are lots of hiding places for my fry. Why don't you instead get all male guppies then you don't have to worry about fry at all. [acronym:3fd6cf86d4="In my opinion"]IMO[/acronym:3fd6cf86d4] fry are quite capable of surviving, the odds are against all of the fry being eaten.

Microctenopoma will take care of any bothersome fry, but not get big enough to bother adult guppies....probably eat your neons, though....well, and probably your male guppies...and smaller females....bah, forget the guppies and get the microctenopoma instead.

Congo tetras will definately love the chase of fry
The neons are going to cause a problem with anything that would eat fry, once there are no fry, there will be no neons. Stick with males and don't worry about fry. or consider a not so breeding happy fish. |

Most adult fish will eat fry and or eggs. Rule is if it fits in their mouth, it will become lunch. Of course there are exceptions to every rule.

I have guppies, now 4, because, for a while, a single couple was sharing the 75 g with two dwarf ggouramisand one sswordtailmolly. So two of the fry escaped and now are bbeautifulteenaged guppies. But now the tank is completed, with a large koi angel, a large gourami, a few schools of tetras and rasboras, etc.
I don't expect to see any more fry from now on!

i keep on having litters of fry from my single mollie who got impregnated before the male died (3 LITTERS AGO!) and something in the tank is taking care of most of them. Out of 12 last litter, 2 survived. You can see what i have in my sig. and im pretty sure its the flagfish getting them.
