Compatibility of Indian Dwarf Puffers with Dwarf Frogs

Hi All,

This is my first post here at AA. Lots of good info that is presented in these forums. Thank you so much.
I am contemplating setting up my first aquarium... A 10 gallon freshwater with some low light plants. I definitely would like some dwarf puffers, I'm thinking around 3. I will also stock the tank with the Oto catfish because they are suppose to be compatible. My question is, do you think that stocking my tank with 2 or so african dwarf frogs will work with the dwarf puffers? I would hate to spend the money to have the poor frogs mauled by these fish!

Thank you,
-Brad

Welcome to AA.

Ideally, dwarf puffers should be kept in a species only tank. Three dwarfs will dominate a ten gallon. I'd skip the frogs. They may do well at first but I don't think they would fare very well long term.

I agree. [acronym:6c387b9c56="African Dwarf Frog"]ADF[/acronym:6c387b9c56]'s are difficult to feed unless kept by themselves... most [acronym:6c387b9c56="African Dwarf Frog"]ADF[/acronym:6c387b9c56]'s die of starvation when kept with anything else. They are slow and awkward eaters and pretty much defenseless. I rescued 3 [acronym:6c387b9c56="African Dwarf Frog"]ADF[/acronym:6c387b9c56]'s from my mother's community tank - she had lost three others to starvation because of the fish eating all of the food despite feeding with a dropper and putting the food RIGHT UNDER THEIR NOSES. I keep them by themselves in a 5.5 and they are happy little critters - the male even vocalizes at night!
