As a rule scaleless fish do not tolerate salt very well. I would never use salt with loaches, plecos, algae eaters or catfish.

Brian is, of course, correct.

However, are you lookign to treat a parasite (ich?) with salt? Or are you just wanting to add salt all the time even though it's not necessary?

I have found that clown loaches are particularly sensitive to the salt (seeing since i killed so many with that ich treatement
But i have found ways around this problem. If i have other fish that are sick , i will net them out and salt bathe them, and for ich, i just use the temperature about 86 method, which my research has led me to know that it works in killing the ich parasite.

My loach does well with aquarium salt, though I don't keep the salinity too high.

I can say that the common pleco is able to handle salt at 1 tablespoon per 5 gallons of water. Seeing as Ich comes up from the gravel when it hatches mine was pretty ate up with it before I noticed. 2 weeks with salt in the tank and all the fish are alive and healthy. Pleco is currenlty sucking away at his zuchinni treat. I read somewhere else that Danio's didn't like salt either, but the first time I'd seen them spawn was after the salt being added.

i also heard cory's and raingow sharks were sensitive, but mine were never harmed by the salt. It was only my clown loaches that died. and they always died in the days following a salt treatement.

I believe that neons aren't good with salt, nor are ADF's. And of course the above mentioned loaches.

I have a clown loach, and a pleco, and a cory, and zebra. None of them seem to mind. I put in 1 teaspoon of salt per gallon.
