Converting a HOB into a sponge filter?

So with getting my koi sword tails soon for my tank along with already having RCS im afraid my aqua clear hob filter will suck the babies up, is there a way i can cover the intake with a small sponge to make it safe for them?

You could do a sponge, but I would clean it regularly. You could also just tie a peace of pantyhose to your intake. That is what I have heard of other people doing. If you have an old fish net you could use that, but you would have to cut it up.

You can use sponge, just make sure it doesn't restric the intake too much
