Cory Cat / Clown Loach Shortage?

I've been to several local fish stores in my area in hopes of finding some Cories (preferably Julii) and/or Clown Loaches, but I haven't had any luck. One of the [acronym:0bfc1e35a6="Local Fish Store"]lfs[/acronym:0bfc1e35a6] says that they should be getting some Cories in this week, but they've been saying that for the past 3 weeks. I could've had 3 Jullis today, but they were kept in the same tank as a trio of Red Tailed Sharks who all had clamped fins w/spots. Needless to say, I passed them up. The Clown Loaches were more or less a back up plan, but I can't even find them! Is there a shortage or is it just a problem in my area?

There are plenty of clown loaches and all sorts of cories in TO and I'm sure they'll be cheaper than in the USA. May be you would like to consider a nice field trip to the north!

i'm in NJ and my local petsmart (as well as all other privately-owned [acronym:e44c96d343="Local Fish Store"]LFS[/acronym:e44c96d343] in my immediate area) has a variety of cories, as well as about a dozen clown loaches.

try a different [acronym:e44c96d343="Local Fish Store"]lfs[/acronym:e44c96d343]?

Be careful buyin clown loaches as a "backup plan" they get much bigger than corys! You probably already know that but it pays to make sure :P

There are clown loaches here and cory cats by the dozens I swear. I wish that more [acronym:97704d4670="Local Fish Store"]lfs[/acronym:97704d4670] would advise how big clowns get as there are so available here.

Thanks for the info guys.

I do know that Clown Loaches get large. That's actually why I hadn't bought them sooner! In the future I'm planning on getting a large aquarium for home (at least 75 gallons) so I'd be relocating them when they outgrow the 46 gallon bow tank in my office. I'm planning on moving my Pleco as well when he gets to big. He's currently pushing 5". It's hard to believe how big he's gotten since I bought him July 13th! They grow so fast!

I really want Cories as I think they're adorable, but I just can't seem to get my hands on a healthy school of them. I guess I'll just have to keep my eyes open and be patient.

I actually wish that clown loaches would be removed from the fish hobby altogether (although with all the other very large fish). I've got 5 clowns that I agonize over how to provide them with the appropriate home eventually....

I don't agree that they should be removed from the hobby as they can be kept in readily available tank sizes (100-125gal).

I love clown loaches, but don't have any yet. I absolutely think they should stay in the hobby, but we have this ongoing problem that aquarium owners don't learn about tank capacity before buying their fish.

I plan to buy 3-5 clowns, but I also have a 125 gallon tank to put them in.
