ok just looked in my tank and noticed that there were 2 red crabs (not sure what kind)oh but wait i only have one! it was his skin/shell i have only had it a short time but i did not know that they did this or if it's supposed to should i take the shell out?
call me stupid i have no clue

Crabs do this as they grow, and regrow limbs. If he lives through it then consider it a good sign :)

Also, leave the empty shell in there. He'll nibble on it to recover some of the calcium that he lost, so he can regrow a new and healthy shell

Yes, i had to red claw crabs that shed there shells but sadly they didnt survive much longer after that, they seemed to stiffen up and eventually died.
:(

thanks i hope he doesn't die though
he came back out and took the shell back to his cave so maybe he will eat it

Im glad your little fella made it! x

I was so sad to loose my crabs, they were lots of fun to watch, i want to get another but my partner said whats the point if the others died.
